North Codorus Township, PA - A tragic and devastating day unfolded in rural southern Pennsylvania on Wednesday, as three police officers were fatally shot and two others were wounded in an incident that has shocked the community and the state. The shooter was also killed by police.

According to Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Christopher Paris, the officers were at a rural farmhouse in North Codorus Township, located in York County, to follow up on a domestic-related investigation that had begun the previous day. The shooting erupted just after 2:00 PM local time.

The two wounded officers were transported to York Hospital, where they are listed in critical but stable condition. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased or injured officers, or the shooter, citing an ongoing investigation.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro called the day "absolutely tragic and devastating" and extended his condolences to the families of the fallen officers. He, along with Attorney General Pamela Bondi, stressed the need for society to do better to prevent such violence. Federal agents, including the FBI, are assisting local and state law enforcement in the investigation.

This incident marks one of the deadliest days for Pennsylvania law enforcement in recent memory. Community members have begun leaving flowers and other tributes at the Northern York Regional Police Department headquarters as a sign of mourning and support.
